Meet Winnie, Sarah, and Billie Bones – A Little Hocus Pocus, Looking for Their Happy Endings
On October 24, 2025, three gentle souls wandered onto the Ranch looking for safety. What they found was care, consistency, and a place to rest — and now they’re ready for the final step of their journey: finding forever homes.
Winnie is an estimated 4 years old, Sarah is believed to be her pup, around 1 year old, and Billie Bones is approximately 5 years old. Winnie, Sarah, and Billie Bones appear to be a bonded family unit. All three are large-breed livestock-guardian-type mixes with calm demeanors, thoughtful personalities, and hearts built for loyalty. They’ve settled into ranch life beautifully and have shown themselves to be affectionate, social, and deeply deserving of permanent families.
Whether you’re looking for a confident companion, a playful young dog, or a gentle guardian-type soul, one of these three may be your perfect match.
All three dogs are healthy, well-adjusted, and ready for adoption. They don’t need a ranch to thrive — just safety, kindness, and commitment.
If you’re interested in meeting Winnie, Sarah, or Billie Bones, please reach out. Their journey started together… now it’s time for each of them to find the home where they truly belong.
Meet Falkor – A Luck Dragon finds his way to the Ranch!
On December 21, 2025, a young Golden Retriever appeared at Ranch, just in time for the holidays — as if guided by a little magic. We named him Falkor, inspired by The NeverEnding Story, because like his namesake, he’s joyful, gentle, and seems to bring good luck wherever he goes.
Falkor is about 1 year old and has the kind of temperament that makes Golden Retrievers so beloved. He’s playful, affectionate, and eager to please, with a sunny personality that fits right into ranch life. He does wonderfully with other dogs and cats, loves a good game of fetch, and already has some solid manners under his belt.
He walks well on leash, is crate trained, and genuinely enjoys learning and engaging with people. Falkor would thrive in an active, loving home where he can continue being part of the family — whether that’s adventures, playtime, or couch cuddles at the end of the day.
Falkor is now ready for his next chapter… and his forever story.
Meet Stormy — A Sweet Little Survivor
Stormy arrived at Ranch on January 24, 2026, just ahead of a major cold storm — tiny, brave, and clearly ready for safety. Her timing earned her the name, but her personality quickly stole our hearts.
Stormy is a small, young female (estimated 10–13 months old, about 20 lbs) with short corgi-like legs and features reminiscent of an Australian Cattle Dog mix. She has a sweet, submissive nature, is gentle with other dogs, and shows polite curiosity toward cats.
She already knows “sit” and is eager to learn more. Stormy is still figuring out the leash — not fearful, just unsure what it’s all about — and would benefit from patient, positive reinforcement as she gains confidence.
Stormy is the kind of dog who watches closely, learns quickly, and forms deep bonds. She’s ready for a forever home that will help her grow into the confident little companion she’s meant to be.

Why We Foster
The Rio Grande Valley is facing a severe stray animal crisis, with an estimated 750,000–1,000,000 unowned dogs and cats roaming streets, colonias, and rural areas. Local shelters and rescues are overwhelmed, and countless animals are left without care, safety, or a chance at adoption.
We’re proud to do our part by fostering dogs for a local rescue, Border Paws of the RGV, providing them with a safe, loving space to recover, grow, and prepare for their forever homes. Fostering not only saves lives—it helps relieve the burden on shelters and gives these animals the second chance they deserve.
Border Paws of the RGV
is a dedicated 501(c)(3) rescue organization serving the Rio Grande Valley along the Texas–Mexico border. Their mission is to reduce stray and unwanted dog populations through spay/neuter programs, veterinary care, and strategic networking with rescue partners across the U.S.
Based in Harlingen and San Benito, Border Paws tackles shelter overcrowding by vetting, transporting, and rehoming at-risk dogs to approved adopters outside of Texas. In 2025 alone, they’ve helped rescue over 300 Valley dogs, funding essential care and placing them in loving foster homes.

Our Foster Dogs who moved on to their Furrever Homes!
Comet, Dasher, and Blitzen: Three Brothers, Three Happy Endings
Comet, Dasher, and Blitzen were born in late October 2024, one of nine tiny puppies who arrived at a local shelter at just five weeks old. Each weighed barely two pounds, and with the shelter facing severe overcrowding, their future was uncertain. That’s when Border Paws of the RGV put out an urgent call for foster homes. We answered — along with two other dedicated fosters — and welcomed three little brothers into our care.
Because they arrived just as the holidays approached, we named them after Santa’s reindeer: Dasher, Blitzen, and Comet — small pups with big journeys ahead.
From the beginning, each brother followed his own path. Dasher, true to his name, was confident and outgoing and was adopted quickly, finding his forever home early on. Blitzen stayed a little longer, growing and gaining confidence, before being adopted a few months later into a loving family of his own.
And then there was Comet. Comet remained with us for just over a year, growing from a fragile puppy into a wonderful young dog alongside daily ranch life. During that time, he became sweet, social, and eager to please. He learned to walk well on leash, did great with other dogs, and continued to gain confidence through consistent love and structure. He was curious about cats (sometimes unsure) but always learning and improving. Comet wasn’t forgotten, he was simply waiting for the right family.
And now, the final chapter:
It’s official (Feb 2026), Comet has been adopted and will be traveling to his forever home. After more than a year of patience, growth, and care, Comet’s journey has come full circle.
Their story is a reminder that fostering saves lives — and that sometimes, the brightest stars take a little longer to find where they belong.
The Independence Day Pups — Six Girls, One Star-Spangled Start
Freedom came early to the Ranch in 2024. On July 4, 2024, Velma, one of the Scooby-Doo Gang who wandered onto the Ranch just 2 months earlier, gave birth to six beautiful baby girls. With a high probability that Scooby (her goofy black-lab companion) was the dad, the Ranch officially welcomed what became known as the Independence Day Pups.
The girls were perfectly named for the occasion:
Little Rebel, Indy, Lady Liberty, Dolly Madison, Miss America, and Sweet Freedom.
From the start, each pup showed her own personality; bold explorers, playful wrestlers, curious observers, and confident little leaders. Together, they spent their days tumbling over one another, learning boundaries, and perfecting the fine art of puppy chaos.
Velma proved to be a devoted and patient mom, while “Auntie” Daphne assisted with supervision; though both were regularly driven a little crazy by the girls’ endless energy and antics. Between zoomies, wrestling matches, and synchronized mischief, the Ranch was filled with laughter and movement.
All six Independence Day girls found their forever homes on the East Coast, each heading off to begin her own next chapter — a fitting journey for pups born on a day that celebrates independence, new beginnings, and possibility.
Six puppies. One unforgettable summer. And six happily-ever-after stories written coast to coast.
The Scooby-Doo Gang — Solving the Mystery of Home
On May 6, 2024, three stray dogs wandered onto the Ranch together; quickly earning the nickname the Scooby-Doo Gang. What started as an unexpected arrival became one of the Ranch’s most memorable rescue stories.
Scooby, a 1-year-old male Black Lab, was the first to settle in. True to his namesake, he warmed up quickly and revealed himself to be a complete goof — playful, joyful, and always ready for fun. Scooby loved to play and brought instant energy and laughter wherever he went.
Velma, an approximately 4-year-old Husky/Lab mix, was next to trust. Confident yet reserved, Velma showed clear signs of past trauma and abuse, but beneath that was a dog who deeply enjoyed calm affection and gentle reassurance. Velma loved being petted and, in time, allowed herself to feel safe again.
Daphne, a 2–3-year-old Belgian Shepherd/Chow Chow mix, took the longest to warm up. Initially reserved and observant, she watched from a distance until she decided it was safe. Once comfortable, Daphne revealed herself to be a sweetheart with a love for running — free, fast, and joyful across open space.
As time passed, each dog followed their own path. Scooby found his forever home first in January 2025, just a few months after arriving; his goofy charm winning hearts quickly. Daphne followed in March 2025, adopted by one of our winter residents and now traveling with her new dad from spring through fall, living a life full of movement and adventure. Velma remains with us. Over time, she has healed, blossomed, and become a true part of the Ranch pack; steady, thoughtful, and deeply loved.
The Scooby-Doo Gang may have arrived together, but each found exactly what they needed: safety, patience, and the chance to choose their own happy ending.
Some dogs pass through our gates on their way home. Others help define what home means. Velma, Scooby, and Daphne did both.
Bert & Ernie: A Tale of Two Chows
In late April 2024, two Chow Chows—Bert and Ernie—were spotted wandering a neighborhood together. While some neighbors showed concern, others were less welcoming and began threatening to call animal control. Thankfully, one kind resident reached out to Border Paws of the RGV, who quickly coordinated with Houston Chow Chow Connection to secure rescue placement.
Before they could make the trip to Houston, Bert and Ernie needed a safe place to stay. That’s where the Ranch stepped in.
Ernie was young, bouncy, and full of energy. Bert, on the other hand, was sweet but very shy—and in need of extra care. His coat was matted, and he suffered from an eye condition that required veterinary attention. Both boys were in rough shape, but they quickly settled into their temporary home at the Ranch.
Once in Houston, Ernie found his forever family quickly, bringing joy and spunk wherever he went. Bert’s journey took a little longer—he needed eye surgery and time to heal, but once recovered, he was ready for a new chapter.
With his transformation complete, Bert was adopted and received a brand-new name to go with his new life: Cheddar. As an older gentleman, he fit perfectly into his new home alongside his “senior” sister. These days, he enjoys peaceful walks with her—and when she gets too tired, Cheddar lovingly stays by her side as their mom pushes her in a stroller.
From uncertainty to unconditional love, Bert and Ernie’s story is a beautiful reminder of the power of kindness, rescue, and second chances.
Cheddar’s, aka Bert, new home.
Miss Lottie Love: A Journey of Resilience
Miss Lottie Love came to us with a heart full of hope and a story marked by hardship. Living on the streets is never easy—especially for a mama trying to keep her babies safe. Lottie gave birth to nine puppies, but tragically, only two survived. In March 2024, she arrived at the Ranch with her boys, Little Dude and Bubby, who were just six weeks old.
Cautious and protective, Lottie was still eager for affection—and quickly showed us how much love she had to give.
After Bubby found his forever home, another puppy in need, Bailey, joined the little family. Lottie and Little Dude embraced her as their own, and soon after, Bailey and Little Dude were adopted into loving homes.
Lottie’s wait was a bit longer—but oh, was it worth it. She found her forever family with Victoria, and gained a new furry sister, Stella. The two bonded instantly, as if they’d been littermates from the start.
Today, Lottie is truly living her best life—loved, safe, and surrounded by family.
The February Pups: A Quick Stop on the Road to Forever
In February 2024, our second group of puppies arrived at the Ranch from an overwhelmed foster home. The litter included seven playful boys and one sweet little girl, all in urgent need of medical care and more room to grow.
These pups quickly settled into life at the Ranch, where they received the attention, treatment, and space they needed to thrive. After just two weeks of care, they were healthy, happy, and ready for the next step.
Thanks to our rescue partners, the entire litter was transported to the East Coast, where loving families were waiting to welcome them home.
Short stay, big impact—these pups remind us how even brief fostering can change lives forever.
Lily’s Story: From Ditch to Destiny
In December 2023, Lily gave birth to 11 puppies in a ditch on the side of the road. Exposed to the elements and fighting to survive, their situation was desperate. Thankfully, a local stray animal feeder discovered them—but sadly, two of the puppies had already succumbed to the cold before help arrived.
On New Year’s Eve, Lily and her nine surviving puppies were brought to the Ranch, where they received the warmth, care, and love they so desperately needed.
Thanks to the incredible efforts of Border Paws of the RGV, in partnership with Match Dog Rescue, Lily and all nine of her puppies found their forever homes.
From heartbreak to hope, Lily’s journey reminds us why rescue, fostering, and compassion matter.
